Welcome back to the second addition to the ongoing series “Faces of Vainglory”, where we bring the community closer to the pros you love. This time we are going to talk about Cloud9 star laner and captain, Hardek!
Rommel “Hardek” Soriano was born in the Philippines but now resides in California. Hardek, being only the age of 24, has had a very long, diverse history in the gaming realm. Competing in games from CS:GO all the way to DOTA, he now dedicates his time and skill to the action packed mobile MOBA, Vainglory. Hardek has been in the competitive scene for as long as most players remember, conquering the fold with Toph the entire time. He has played alongside numerous pros such as VONC, SuiJeneris, and chiicken. During the first autumn qualifiers, Hardek and his team made a statement in getting to the semifinals, but were on the wrong end of an upset against VON Menace. In the next qualifier, the team made it to the finals but again fell short to VON. Then came the live championships in the fall of 2015, where Hydra stomped through the bracket to face Liberation X in the finals. With a convincing first two wins, Hydra was reverse swept, marking one of the most landmark comebacks in Vainglory history. Participating in the winter live championships Hydra lost to Hammers Velocity in the semi-finals. In the spring, with newly acquired jungle monster VONC, the trio had a disappointing season, but still made it to the live finals. Hydra again faced Hammers Velocity in the semifinals, but suffered a crushing defeat. With former member iLoveJoseph back in the squad, and the shift of ownership from Nemesis to eSports powerhouse Cloud9, the three have high hopes of dominating the fold and getting their first live championship victory. Today, Hardek is the shot caller for his team, and one of the key traits you notice when watching him play is the innate ability of map awareness. At any moment in time he can seemingly triangulate the location of the enemy team and time rotations and predict engages in a flash. He also synergizes extremely well with his teammates. Thanks for reading this edition of “Faces of Vainglory”! If you’ve read this far and want us to write about YOUR favorite player, contact us on twitter or facebook, or email us at [email protected] . I'll leave you all with a quote from Hardek himself. “Just stay strong. Don't get mad at each other, help each other, motivate each other, treat them as your family... and last is do your best win or lose”. #MakeAnImpact
